Obituary

Winton Ellis Solomon son of Minnie Copeland Solomon and the late William Thomas Solomon, was born on November 19, 1941 in Halifax County, Enfield, North Carolina.

He departed this life on February 26, 2009 at Halifax Regional Medical Center in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina.

His educational experiences were received in the Halifax County School System.

In his teens, he was baptized at the Lebanon Baptist Church in the Darlington Area. Upon returning to Enfield, he united with Daniels Chapel Baptist Church, serving in the Senior Choir and on the Trustee Board, faithfully, until his health curtailed his ability to serve.

He married Carolyn Goins on January 4, 1964. To this union, two sons were born.

His work experiences were pursued in the Washington, DC area, prior to joining the Navy in 1963. He served two enlistments, which included a tour of duty in Vietnam. Returning to civilian employment, he also furthered his educational goals in Computer Technology. He was employed with the Honeywell Corporation and several other private sector businesses before entering the government sector with the Justice Department.

Upon relocating to Enfield, in 1999, he was employed in the ITS Department as a Computer Technician for Halifax County. He also worked part-time with J.L. Williams and Son Funeral Home, now Lea and Pope Funeral Home.

"Jimmy" as he was known to many, had a sense of humor that was an endearment with everyone. He was also adamant in wanting detailed information in everything he was interested in, and in his dedication to the roles he chose to participate in, often times accepting nothing less than desired perfection from those he was involved with.

Left to cherish his memories are his sons: Gregory Solomon of Temple Hill, MD and Terrence Solomon, of Seat Pleasant, MD; his mother, of the home, Enfield, NC; his brothers: Rev. Melvin B. Solomon (Vernetta) of Vass, NC, Emerson J. Solomon, of Mason, OH, and Carlton J. Solomon (Gloria), of Durham, NC; sisters: Rosa Stubblefield of Enfield, NC, Mildred Solomon, Clarestine Summey of Winston Salem, NC, Sandra S. Pridgen (Jim) of Columbus, IN; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and devoted friends.
