Wilson Darrell Boykin was born on July 20, 1955 in Wake County, North Carolina to Wilson and Catherine Hinton Boykin. Darrell, as he was known, departed this life on June 1, 2007 at his home in Garner, North Carolina.
He was a member of Malaby's Crossroads Baptist Church and later joined his wife at Poplar Springs Christian Church, where he remained until his death.
Darrell's father, Wilson Boykin and sister, Darlene Boykin preceded him in death.
Darrell graduated from Broughton High School and attended St. Augustine's College in Raleigh, North Carolina. While in high school, Darrell was very active in basketball and baseball. His special talent was writing poetic expressions that were dedicated to his mother, his family and life in general. Darrell loved socializing with friends and family.
Darrell leaves to cherish his memories, a loving and devoted wife of 22 years, Phyllis Baker Boykin, two sons; Demar and Darron Boykin, and two daughters; Denesha Boykin and Darlisha Loftin of Raleigh, North Carolina. His mother, Catherine Hinton Boykin, his brother, Millet Boykin (Yvonne), his aunts; Alma Boykin, Nanny Perry, Minnie Curtis (Howard), Lucy Hinton, and three grandsons; Shamiek, Shadrick and Skakiem Wilson, mother and father in law, Clifton and Lessie Baker, three sister in laws; Diane Baker Green, Joyce Baker Harris and Queen L. Barrett (Frank), one brother in law, Cliff Baker (Patrice), two god sisters, Melissa Obame and Ann Wilson Terrell, a god brother Waymond Wright, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins.
Darrell had a diversity of friends. No one was a stranger. His life was enriched by each of you. Whether you knew him as Darrell or "Germ", you were a part of his life for a reason," To God Be the Glory".
