Obituary

I have fought a good fight my time has come to rest, for God knew what was best. God set forth for me to leave this earth quietly and peacefully on Sunday, November 15, 2009 at Cape Fear Medical Hospital.



Deacon Willie A. McMillian was born July 07,1942, to the late
John McMillian and Rosie Norman in Drewery, Alabama. He was educated at Ransom High School where he graduated in 1961. After graduating from high school, Deacon Willie A McMillian joined the United States Army in 1962. He traveled all over the world to places such as Hawaii, Germany, and Korea. He fought in the Vietnam war and was a decorated soldier earning the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, The Bronze Star, and a Purple Heart. He retired as a Sergeant First Class in 1984. After retirement he worked as a security guard at Fayetteville Technical School. Deacon Willie McMillian attended Methodist University in 2003 and received his Bachelors degree.

Deacon Willie McMillian accepted Christ at an early age. He was a member of Williams Chapel Free Will Baptist Church where he served faithfully as a Deacon of 25 years. He began his Christian walk in the ministry under the leadership of Pastor Robert L Covington in 1976. He later served faithfully under Pastor John W. Peek and his last years were under the leadership of Pastor Kimberly Nixon. He served as president of the Male Chorus and a member of the Gospel Choir. He was a member of the Missionary Board and served as Chairperson for the Deacon Fellowship of the Cape Fear B Conference. He contributed to the Small Group Ministry as a coach. Deacon McMillian was an active member of the Silver Square Lodge No. 791, an active member of the NAACP, and a member of the VFW.

Deacon McMillian was a great and loving family man. He was very well known throughout the community and surrounding areas as Daddy Mac or Big Money Grip, and always having a joke to lift your spirits. He was also an Entepreneur, owning and working with his wife in their day care business.

In December of 1962 he married the love of his life Iteria McMillian. They are the very proud parents of five astonishing sons. One son preceded him in death: Willie Albert McMillian Jr.

Deacon Willie McMillian leaves to cherish his loving and devoted wife Mother Iteria McMillian, four sons, Kent, Marvin (Deborah), Shawn (Tereasa) Fayetteville, NC, Albert (One daughter-in-law Arnessa) Raleigh, NC. Three granddaughters; Nyshawna, Camille, and Brittany and one on the way. Two brothers, Henry James McMillian (Pensacola, Florida) and Jerry McMillian (California). One brother preceded him in death John McMillian. Two sisters, Dora Lee McMillian (Ohio) and Reatha M. McKnigkt (Mobile, Alabama). Two sisters preceded him in death, Lavern McMillian and Lilly Broughton. Five Sister-in Laws, Mary (Pensacola, FL), Louise (Cantonment, FL), Rose (New York), Lilly (Cantonment, FL) and Channel (Miami). Three brother-in-laws, Willie (FL), Johnny (FL), Charles (Miami). Godparents, Mother Ruthie and (Pop) George Johnson (Fayetteville, NC). Connie Loftin (Special daughter from Pensacola, FL). David "Dave" and Joyce Mallety (special childhood friends), and a host of God children, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
