On November 2, 1932, God saw fit to breathe into Violet the breath of life and she became a living soul. Seventy-six years later on August 31, 2009 around 7:00 am God looked down upon earth and seeing her smiling face, he gently put his arms around her and lifted her to rest. God's garden must be beautiful for he took another of his very best.
Violet Mae Yellowdy Williams was born on November 2, 1932 in Wilson County to the late Willie and Hettie Yellowdy.
She attended public schools in Johnston County and later attended college at Fayetteville State University in Fayetteville, NC. It was there that she met and later married Retho Webster Williams who preceded her in death. To this union they were blessed with a son, Retho Webster Williams, Jr. She taught in the Greene County School System where she retired after teaching for 35 years. She was a faithful member, of the NCAE.
Religion was of great importance to her, and she became a dedicated member of St. James AME Zion Church. There she served as the pastor's stewart, chairman of the trustee board, Leader of Leaders, deaconess of the church, and chairman of the family and friends day. In these duties she served faithfully until her declining health.
She was the epitome of womanhood-a quiet Christian, a devoted wife, a beautiful, and wonderful grandmother (aka Mema), a loving sister, a generous aunt, a concerned neighbor and a friend to all. She will forever be loved and remembered.
In addition, she leaves to cherish with fond memories, a son, Retho Webster Williams, Jr. (Susie) of Rocky Mount, 3 grandchildren, Retho Webster III, Kaitlin Elizabeth, and Jared Croxton Williams all of Rocky Mount, NC; Four sisters, Irene Stanley and Mollie Taylor (Pete) of Smithfield, NC, Lucy Pridgen (LoMack) of LaGrange, NC, and Anner Grantham of Maryland, 1 brother-in-law, Croxton Williams (Rosa), 1 sister-in-law, Dorthory Wright (Roy), 1 aunt, Naomi Godwin, Maryland. Violet is also surrounded by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Condolences are welcomed!
