Obituary

Troy Mandell Hunter, Sr., was born a blessed and loving child on Easter Sunday, April 22, 1973, at Freedman's Hospital in Washington, D.C. to Carolyn Spruill Spicer and Chester C. Hunter, Jr. He departed this life on September 1, 2008 at George Washington University Hospital, Washington, D.C. at 4:10 a.m. Troy joined Saint's Chapel Missionary Baptist Church at an early age. He was educated in the Halifax County Public School System, graduated from Northwest Halifax High School in 1992 and attended Shaw University in Raleigh, North Carolina.
After leaving Shaw, he enlisted in the United States Navy. He was soon deployed and served on a tour of duty in the Persian Gulf on the USS Cole. He received an honorable discharge in 1999.
Upon his return to civilian life, Troy ventured to Bronx, New York soon to return to the Maryland area where he resided until his demise. Troy was employed with Magnolia Plumbing, Washington, D.C. and last employed with PMV Plumbing and Heating, Inc. as a plumber and a camera technician. Troy's zest for life and his free spirit captured many hearts and left a permanent space in their hearts that can never be replaced by another. He had no fear of life and enjoyed life to the fullest. When asked about fear Troy would simply reply, "I fear only two men, my Father and God." Troy was a loving, charismatic young man who was kind, caring, respectful and had a heart of gold.
Troy had a very angelic voice for singing. He was able to showcase his talent through song with a group called "UNKUT." Troy was also an avid pool and golf player.
Troy married Kimberley Wingfield and her son Edward who became his son also. Kim and Troy were blessed with adorable twin boys, Troy and Tyler Hunter on August 30, 2003.
Troy's legacy will forever be remembered by his loving wife, Kimberley, Troy and Tyler Hunter and Edward Boone of Clinton, Maryland. His loving and caring mother, Carolyn Spicer; his devoted stepfather Gregory Spicer of Enfield, NC; his

Hunter, Jr.; his devoted stepmother, Cheryl Hunter of Virginia Beach, VA; mother-in-law Mary Bynum of Richmond, VA; sisters-in-law Angela Williams (Tim) of Richmond, VA, Lisa Hicks (Kevin) of Fort Washington, MD; brother-in-law Harold Graves, of Fort Washington, MD; three brothers, Nazareth Ridley (Chanel) of Chesapeake VA, Rev. James T. Sweet (Jamilah) of Enfield, NC, Rev. Chance D. Lynch of Durham, NC; three sisters, Monique Hawkins (Chris) of Hampton, VA, Trina Newkirk (Antwone) of Raleigh, NC, NaTasha Davis of Wilson, NC; maternal grandmother, Louise Yates of Enfield, NC, George and Danielle Rivers Sr., of Portsmouth, VA; paternal grandmother, "his heart", Myra M. Davis of Enfield, NC; grandfather, Chester Hunter of Rocky Mount, NC; five aunts, Odell (Steve) Mann, Marie (Elbert) Davis, Debra (James, a "special uncle") Sweet, Dr. Donna Hunter, all of Enfield, NC and Karen Silverberg (Mark) of Portsmouth, VA; five uncles George Rivers, Jr. (Mary) of Portsmouth VA, Michael Rivers (Debra) of Chesapeake, VA, Keith Rivers (Patriece) of Williamsburg, VA , Antoine and Mark Rivers of Virginia Beach, VA; six great aunts, Dorothy Bryant, Pattie Silver and Molly Macon (Bud), all of Enfield, NC; Inez Davis of Detriot, MI, Doris Davis of Virginia Beach, VA, Delores Davis of Annapolis, MD; four great uncles, Willie Mills, Frank Hunter (Mattie), Mack Donald Hunter and Woodson Hunter (Helen), all of Enfield, NC; three nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral service for Mr. Troy M. Hunter will be held Saturday, 2PM September 6, 2008 at Greater Saints Baptist Church. Burial will follow the service in the Davis Family Cemetery. A visitation will be held Friday, 6-8PM September 5, 2008 at Lea & Pope Funeral Home.
