Shanika Monique
Pittman
September 13, 1970 – August 27, 2025
With deep sorrow and enduring love, our beloved daughter, Shanika Monique Pittman, departed this life far sooner than our hearts were prepared to let her go. Born on September 13, 1970, in Enfield, North Carolina, Shanika was the cherished daughter of Herman Bethea and Linda Clark. At the age of 12, she moved to Atlanta, Georgia, where her devoted stepfather, Reggie, became an integral part of her upbringing and the strong, spirited woman she became.
Shanika was a graduate of Georgia Southern University, where she obtained a degree in Hospitality Administration and Management. Her accomplished career began with her pursuing exciting opportunities at Walt Disney World in Florida, and later at the Sheraton Inner Harbor Hotel in Maryland. After developing a strong interest in the healthcare area, Shanika decided to continue her academic journey, and she earned a Master's degree in Healthcare Administration and Management from the University of Baltimore. She held several management positions of increasing responsibility before eventually becoming the Director of Operations, Primary Care at the University of Maryland St. Joseph Medical Center. She was passionate about her job and had the reputation of being a thoughtful leader and someone who carried the weight of her responsibilities with dignity and grace.
In 1998, Shanika welcomed her greatest joy into the world—her daughter, Zoe Yvonne Nathan. Motherhood was a role she embraced with boundless love, intention, and unwavering support.
Shanika was an intellectual force with a vibrant, inquisitive spirit. She was deeply attuned to the state of the world, and her compassion often ran so deep that global events would weigh heavily on her. Yet, her resilience always shone through—fueled by purpose, knowledge, and care.
A true renaissance woman, Shanika was an avid solo traveler, a plant enthusiast (with over 200 plants counted by her father in her home), a foodie, and a social media connector who formed lasting friendships with people around the globe—many of whom she never met in person but came to know deeply. She visited places like Cuba, Spain, Istanbul, Puerto Rico, Colombia, Lisbon, Paris, Mexico, and Turkey, with Portugal becoming her dream retirement destination. She often said Italy stole her heart, and Lisbon so captivated her that she returned twice.
Shanika lived her life unapologetically, embracing experiences that fed her soul and intellect. In the last four years, she developed a deep interest in genealogy, spending her time tracing family roots and uncovering the rich tapestry of her lineage.
She was a woman of faith, and a member of her local church where she found fellowship and deepened her discipleship.
(Inside Right – continuation of obituary and poem)

She is survived by her loving daughter, Zoe Yvonne Nathan; her mother, Linda; her father, Herman Bethea; her stepfather Reggie; her sister Tamiko Sinkfield (Don); her brothers, Ian Clark and Justin Clark; her nephew, Justin Bell and niece, Taylor Chance; her uncle, Gary McCullough (Ann-Marie); her cousin, Crystal Harvey; and a host of other cousins, extended family, colleagues, and treasured friends.
Her presence will be deeply missed, but her legacy—marked by love, intellect, courage, and curiosity—will live on through the many lives she touched.
