Obituary
Rossie Lee Wilkins, son of the late Willie Wilkins and Ellen Silver Wilkins, was born on May 19, 1928 in Halifax County, North Carolina. He departed this earthly life on Wednesday, August 25, 2010 at Pitt Memorial Hospital, Greenville, North Carolina.
Rossie received his education at Eden Elementary School and Eastman High School. He became a member of Plumbline United Holy Church at an early age and remained until he married and moved to Baltimore, Maryland where he and his family lived until 1991, at which time he and his wife, Cleo of 61 years, relocated back to North Carolina and lived at his old home place. While living in Baltimore, they united with the Redeemed Church of Christ where Bishop Clarence Weston was the Pastor. While there, Rossie served as Chairman of the Deacon Board, Church Treasurer, Sunday School Superintendant, and Teacher. His favorite song was "Oh I Want To See Him" and "Wonderful, Wonderful Jesus Is To Me".
While living in Baltimore, Rossie was employed by Bethlehem Steel Company at Sparrows Point for approximately 33 years and he also operated Wilkins' Home Improvement Business. He continued to do Home Improvement after relocating to North Carolina and took much pride in his work.
He was a believer of taking care of and supporting his family. He was a man of few words, slow to speak and was very knowledgeable on a variety of subjects. He was happy to share his knowledge with others.
He was preceded in death by three sisters: Willie Mae Walker (Broder), Delilah Lynch (Hezekiah), and Bertha Saunders-Scott (Herman and Willie), and one brother: Woodrow Wilkins (Annie).
Rossie will be remembered by his wife, Cleo McWilliams Wilkins of the home; one son: Rudolf of Ft. Washington, MD; one daughter: Barbara of Baltimore, MD; two grandchildren: Shanielle and Alexander, both of Baltimore, MD; one brother-in-law: Curtis Mc Williams of Enfield, NC. He had many nieces and nephews who were very special to him. Also, a young man, Bishop Leon Wilson, whom he claimed as his son.
Rossie, we will miss you, but your spirit and memory will live with us forever. We love you, but God loved you best.
