Robert Edward
Marrow
March 25, 1939 – April 23, 2023
Robert Edward Marrow, 84, of Enfield, NC passed away on April 23, 2023, from complications of lung cancer.
Robert (Buster, Pop-pop or Pops) was born March 28, 1939, to Theodore and Mattie (Johnson) Marrow in Enfield, NC. He was the youngest of 7 children. After graduating from Eastman High School at 16, he worked at his brother's cleaners for two years before joining the 11th Airborne Division of the US Army in Ft. Dix, NJ on May 13, 1957. Eventually, he became a Sergeant in the 82nd Airborne and earned a rank he was very proud of- Pathfinder/Paratrooper (in Fort Bragg). Some of his travels included Ausberg and Munich, Germany, the Middle East, Copenhagen, Denmark, and Nancy, France.
He returned to Enfield where he worked several occupations, including owning a car dealership, farming, and working in the boiler room at Caledonia Prison, where he eventually retired from.
He is preceded in death by his parents Theodore and Mattie Marrow, his siblings: Ann (Robert) Hardy, Jeremiah Marrow, John Marrow, Philip Marrow, Geneva (George) Stewart and MacNesia Rhynes, his step-son Kyle Fitzgerald Chapman, nieces Rhonda Stewart, Wanda Annan and Venus Rhynes and nephew Dennis Marrow.
He leaves to cherish his memory: sisters-in-law: Geraldine (Jeremiah) Marrow, and Jessen (Phillip) Marrow, Arlena (John) Marrow, his daughter Tanya (Gary) Allen, her mother Tauhidah Rusul-Ahmad, grandsons Gary and Isaiah Allen, his sons Maurice (Mary) McCormick and Kenneth Ward, his daughter Rita McCormick and a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
There are a host of lady friends that he also left behind, but that list is too long to mention- you know who you are/were to Buster! ;) Buster would go out of his way to help if he could and will always be remembered for being a reliable, funny personality! Pop-pop always made sure to attend 'the March birthday parties' in Ohio as he shared a birth date with his first grandson, and birth month with the 2nd, making special memories for all.
A Memorial Service was held on Monday, May 1, 2023, at 12:00 pm in the chapel of Lea and Pope Funeral Home, 215 S. McDaniel Street, Enfield, North Carolina. His ashes will be spread over his family's land at a later date. Arrangements were handled by Lea and Pope Funeral Home, Enfield, North Carolina. Send condolences to www.leapopefuneralhome.com .
