Obituary

Mr. Robert Thorne, Jr., the son of the late Robert Thorne, Sr. and Elnora Rudd Thorne, was born on September 16, 1945 and peacefully transitioned to eternal life on Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at Rex Hospital, Raleigh, North Carolina. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Roy Thorne.
At an early age, Robert was baptized at Righteous Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Enfield, NC. He received his education through the Halifax County Public School System. He worked for 30 years at J.R Stevensons, Inc., Roanoke Rapids, NC until the factory closed. Before his illness, he worked at Sara Lee Bakery, Tarboro, NC.

Robert Thorne, Jr. leaves to cherish his memories: his daughters, Angela "Ann" Thorne Bridges (Darryl) of Raleigh, NC and Cynthia "Niecy" Thorne Brice (Dennis) of Raleigh, NC; three grandchildren: Lavesha Bridges, Darius Bridges and Antwoine Brice, all of Raleigh, NC; two brothers, Roosevelt (Buddy) Thorne of Rocky Mount, NC and Jerry (Jack) Thorne of Enfield, NC; three aunts: Maggie Pittman and Lillie Belle Moore both of Enfield, NC and Elizabeth Marshall of Manhattan, New York; one uncle, Sam Thorne (Lillie Mae) of Baltimore, Maryland; two nephews, Johnny Sledge of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and Jamie Green of Roanoke Rapids, NC; special friends: George (Bernice) Hedgepeth, Willie Batchelor, Mack McCoy and Reginald "Ni Hi" Whitaker, all of Enfield; a host of relatives and friends.

Our Dad enjoyed some of life's simple pleasures. Whenever we called him and asked, "What're you doing"? He would simple say, "Nothing, but watching TV". Also, he loved spending time socializing with family and friends at cookouts and other fun functions. He was a long time member of the Enfield "Sky Hawks" Motor Cycle Club. Sometimes, when we would catch our Dad eating something he knew he should not be eating, we would ask him, "Is it good?" Without failure, he would always answer, "Yeah Lord!"

Robert Thorne, Jr. will always be remembered as our loving Father. . ..
