Pattie Mae Simmons, daughter of the late Mason Brinkley and Pattie Brinkley, was born July 4, 1925 in Enfield, North Carolina. She departed this life on Saturday, December 21, 2024 at Rocky Mount Rehabilitation Center, Rocky Mount, North Carolina.
Pattie Mae Simmons attended Ward School in Enfield North Carolina. At an early age, she joined The People's Church of God in Christ. She was a faithful member who really loved the Lord. Pattie Mae was a Mother of the church and her love for her church family was very deep. Her pastor, the late Joe "Earl" Brinkley was a compassionate and kind nephew. He took her to church and to her favorite restaurant many times after church, until her health began to fail. She loved him dearly.
Pattie Mae was united in holy matrimony to the late Bonies Simmons, Jr. Together, they had six children, daughters, Mary Ellen Speed (deceased), Evangeline Simmons, Marie Simmons, both of Bronx, NY, Erma Hopkins (Charles) of Yonkers NY, Ameida Simmons (deceased); and one son, Leroy Simmons (Celestine) of Enfield, NC.
In addition to her parents, husband and two daughters, Pattie Mae was also preceded in death by six brothers, Eleazer, Hosea, Hezekiah, Joseph, Thedford, and Mason ; three sisters, Mary Lee, Louvenia, and Lucy; and one grandchild, Dexter Phillip Johnson. She was the last surviving sibling of ten children.
Our mother, Pattie Mae Simmons also leaves to cherish her memories eight grandchildren, Gloria Dean Taylor, Lynette Simmons, Dawn Speed Dawkins, James Speed, Satoria Simmons, Felicia Simmons, and Jeffery Hopkins; a beloved nephew, Elbert Brinkley; fourteen great-grandchildren; twelve great-great grandchildren; a special friend, Alice Brinkley; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
A Funeral Service was held on Friday, December 27, 2024 at 11:00 am at Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist, 6734 Thirteen Bridges Road, Enfield, North Carolina. There was a Public Viewing on Thursday, December 26, 2024 from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm. Burial was in the Enfield Memorial Cemetery, 248 Meyer Street, Enfield, North Carolina.
