Mr. Marvin Thomas, age 84, of Rocky Mount, NC, peacefully departed this life on Sunday, December 15, 2024 at The Service League of Greenville, Inpatient Hospice.

Marvin, affectionately called "Beans", was born on October 8, 1940 to the late Geraldine Pittman Clark and the late St Clair Williams in Halifax County, North Carolina.

After relocating North, Marvin would be raised by his mother, Geraldine, and stepfather, Norris Thomas.  To this union, they welcomed Marvin's little brother, John Wesley Thomas.

Marvin and the family would soon relocate to Essex County, New Jersey, where Marvin would receive his formal education from the Orange and East Orange Public Schools. He graduated from Orange High School, class of 1958.  Upon graduation, he matriculated at Bloomfield Technical where he received his vocational diploma and certificate. Marvin was employed by a chemical company for eleven years, and would later serve Koppers Paint in Newark, NJ for thirty years.

Upon retirement, Marvin and his devoted fiancée, Ethel Hines, returned to North Carolina, enjoying their retirement years together.  Throughout their years together, Marvin and Ethel enjoyed frequent trips to Atlantic City, NJ, Las Vegas, NV, The Poconos, PA, and the National Harbor Mall in Washington, D.C.

Marvin was fiercely devoted to his mother, the late Geraldine P. Clark, taking care of her until she passed in 2023 at the age of 103 years old.

In addition to his mother and father, Marvin is predeceased by his stepfather, Thomas Clark; daughter, Chris Coleman; son, Marvin Coleman; and grandson, Marvin Coleman, Jr.

Marvin is lovingly survived by his brother, John Wesley Thomas (Garysburg, NC); his fiancée, Ethel Hines (Rocky Mount, NC); granddaughter, Kayla Coleman (Georgia); nephew, John Thomas, Jr. (Pennsylvania); nieces, Sheila Thomas and Karen Thomas (Colorado); former wife, Gail Thomas; and a host of loving cousins, other relatives and friends.

A Funeral Service was held on Monday, December 23, 2024 at 1:00 pm in the chapel of Lea and Pope Funeral Home, 215 S. McDaniel Street, Enfield, North Carolina. There was a Public Viewing one hour prior to the funeral service from 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm.  Burial was in the Pittman Family Cemetery, Corner of Bryant and South Brown Road, Enfield, North Carolina.
