Madelene Whitaker, the daughter of the late Lossie and Bertha Whitaker was born on April 15, 1937 in Halifax County, North Carolina. She departed this life October 9, 2006 at Nash General Hospital, Rocky Mount, NC.

At an early age Madelene joined Saint Paul Baptist Church of Enfield, North Carolina under the Pastorship of Reverend Frank Bullock. She attended Halifax County Schools and graduated from Inborden High School in 1955. After graduation she relocated to Washington, DC where she lived for 20 years. Due to failing health, she returned to Enfield. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lossie and Bertha Whitaker.

Madelene leaves to cherish her memories, her devoted son: Jethro Boyd (Teresa) of Enfield, NC: two grandchildren: Haley and Kelsey Boyd of Enfield, NC; five sisters; Mary Bell Boone, Margie Joyner and Coreen Gardner, all of Enfield, NC, Wilma Williams (Luther) of Cherry Hill, NJ and Karen Wilson of Washington, DC; one brother: Ezzell Whitaker (Michell) of Washington, DC; two devoted nieces: Shirley Wyatt and Tracey Joyner of Enfield, NC; two close family friends and caregivers; Gwendolyn Bullock and Delma Garrett of Enfield, NC and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation will be Friday October 13, 2006 from 5-7 PM at LEA & POPE FUNERAL HOME. The funeral will be held at 2PM Saturday, October 14, 2006 at St. Paul Baptist Church.
