The Obituary

Ms. Lois Ree Person was born in Halifax County, North Carolina on October 27, 1962 to Nelson Person, Jr. and Claytee Lee Person. She departed this earthly life on September 22, 2010.

Lois graduated from Eastman High School in 1981, the last graduating class of Eastman High. She enjoyed playing bingo and having family functions, especially at Aunt Mamie's. We had cookouts, Easter Egg Hunts, and just sat around laughing and joking.

She was employed at Wal-Mart in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina. She began working there in March of 2004. She would have been there six years, but her declining health made it impossible. She was diagnosed with colorectal cancer in May of 2009. She endured several rounds of five different chemos from Rocky Mount to UNC Chapel Hill. She was a fighter. No matter what she had to do, she was willing to go above and beyond. Her last vacation and good experience was Myrtle Beach, South Carolina with her family.

Lois was a loving mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, niece, cousin, and friend. She was preceded in death by her grandparents: Bertie Richardson Person, Gid Lee, Sr. and Lillie Mae Lee.

She leaves to cherish her memories, her only child: Chanice Ree Taylor, known as Shy of the home; her only grandchild: Jawon Omega Lynch, her heart; her parents: Nelson Person, Jr. and Claytee Lee Person; her grandfather: Nelson Person, Sr. of Littleton; her brothers: Jeremiah Person of Baltimore, MD and Gary Harvey of Roanoke Rapids, NC; her special nephew: Travis Wester; her special companion of 15 years: Winston Macon of Enfield, NC; her aunts: Rosella Cox (Smiley) of Littleton, NC, Mary Conyers (James), Pattie Anderson (Joe), Brenda Person, Doretha Lee, Mamie Lee Harvey (Michael), and Dorothy Lee, all of Enfield, NC, Lenora Battle of Roanoke Rapids, NC, Gail Braswell (James), Helena Cofield (Floyd), and Sandra Stewart (Ricky), all of Rocky Mount, NC; her uncles: Frank Person of Whitakers, NC, Gid Lee, Jr. (Barbara), James Alford Lee (Clara Mae), Earl Lee, and Ervin Lee, all of Enfield, NC and Ealson Lee (Sarah) of Roanoke Rapids, NC; nephews: Jordan Person and Malik Harvey; one niece: Amiyah Harvey; great-niece: Ke'Ziya Wester; great-aunts: Rosalue Silver of Hollister, NC, Mamie Jenkins, Jarriett Solomon, Magnora, and Verty Lynch, all of Enfield, NC, Ella Firkin of Baltimore, MD, and Ida Lee of Brooklyn, NY; great-uncle: Norman Solomon (Mamie); and a host of cousins and friends.
