Mother Lillie P. Fenner, affectionately known as "Granny", was born on July 1, 1907 and departed this life on November 29, 2006 at approximately three o'clock in the morning at her home. She was the daughter of the late Charlie and Luvenia Pierce of Halifax, North Carolina.
She was married to the late James Buchannan Fenner of Halifax. To this union six children were born, three children preceded her in death: Clarence Fenner, Jessie Ray Powell and Queen E. Parker.
Mother Lillie joined the Crowell Baptist Church when she was nine years old, she attended faithfully until her recent illness.
Mother Fenner has worked diligently in both her home and on the farm. She has always loved cooking; wearing her apron, and spending time with her family. She has been known to take care of the sick with both her family members and members of the community.
She had a true and refreshing appetite for water, peppermint, chocolate and coconut candy.
Mother Fenner loved company. She loved to tell stories about her years of growing up. She especially loved going to church. She would sit in the "Mother's" section where she served as a member of the Mother's Board. With teary eyes, she would say," I'm so full, I'm so glad to be in church today!"
The late Rev. McKinley Nicholson, former Pastor of Crowell Baptist Church for 75 years, was also her school teacher.
Granny was a very proud lady. She always said she lived so long because she told people what to do and then watched to make sure they did it. Granny was a proud (ABE) Adult Bacid Education Student at First Baptist Church, Halifax and Dawson Elementary School.
Mother Fenner was a God-fearing woman who knew that He would take care of it all.
She leaves to cherish her memories three daughters: Clemetine Sledge of the home, Argiree Fenner and Maude Cobbs of Richmond, VA; one brother; Charlie Pierce of Patterson, NJ; one son-in-law; Embordian Sledge of the home; one daughter-in-law: Ethel Fenner of Halifax, NC; 22 grandchildren and a devoted caregiver and god-godson: Ronnie Lewis and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
