Obituary

Mrs. Joyce Person Tyler was born in Halifax, NC on January 26, 1949 to Mrs. Margaret Person and the late Steve Person. She was called home to be with God on January 16, 2012.
Joyce was educated in the Weldon City School System. She also graduated from Cortez Peters Business School in Washington, DC. Utilizing her skills to type almost 100 words per minute, Joyce began her career at the U.S. Department of Agriculture where she worked for 35 years.

Joyce accepted Christ at an early age and joined Crowell Missionary Baptist Church in Halifax, NC. During her membership at Crowell, Joyce sang in the choir and served as an usher. Upon graduating from high school, Joyce moved to Washington, DC where she joined Bethesda Baptist Church. She was a faithful member of Bethesda for more than 35 years. During her membership at Bethesda, Joyce served in the following auxiliaries: Sunday School, Bible Training Union, Williams Memorial Bible Class, Pastor's Aid Society and Women's Ministry. Joyce loved to sing. Throughout her membership at Bethesda, Joyce either sang in the Young People's Choir or the Voices of Bethesda.

Upon retirement, Joyce returned to NC where she joined Zion Grove Baptist Church of Aulander, NC. She served faithfully in the choir until her health declined. Joyce honored the Lord first by carrying out his commandment to "Love thy neighbor as thy self." She was a loving wife, grandmother, daughter, sister, cousin and friend. She emulated love, compassion, and a giving spirit. Joyce truly believed in modeling what it meant to be a servant. As Joyce's health declined, she remained steadfast in her faith and belief in the goodness, grace and mercy of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Joyce leaves to cherish her memory the following: husband, Mr. Willie "Bobby" Tyler; mother, Mrs. Margaret Person of Halifax, NC; brother, Dr. Carl Person (Carol) of Lorton, VA; two step-sons, Anthony of Florida and Antonio of Maryland. She also leaves to cherish her memory, a niece, Cara; three grandchildren, Antonio, Jr., Esperanzo and lyana; brother-in-law, Mr. Johnnie Tyler (Mary) of Woodland, NC; and sister-in-law, Mrs. Bettie Leak (Keith) of Raleigh, NC, a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
