James Mitchell, the son of the late William and Sally Richardson Mitchell-Harper-Daniel, was born on June 24, 1919 in Nash County, North Carolina. On Thursday, November 24, 2011, God told James his work here on earth is now done and called him to eternal rest.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Haywood Mitchell and three sisters: Savannah Williams, Rodessa Alston and Lucinder Harper- Cooper.
James was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Katie Solomon on January 12, 1943. He dedicated his life to Katie and devoted himself unto her until the day she died. They were indeed soul mates in life and in death.
James gave his life to Christ in 1947 when he joined White Oak Missionary Baptist Church. He was a faithful servant. James served as an Usher until his health declined. He loved the Lord, his church, and his church family.
He spent his days attending his farm. He would work from dawn to dusk. James took pride in the crops he grew and the livestock he raised. He was very skillful with his hands. Many would call him a "Jack of all trades". He did everything from farming to home repair.
James loved his family especially his wife Katie, he loved her deeply. He always enjoyed when the family would have gatherings. He would sit back and take it all in. James was the happiest when the house was full of people, food and laughter.
