Harry Lee Demery Sr. was born on April 28,1934 in
Halifax, NC. His parents are the late Mollie Porter Demery and McKinley Tillery. He peacefully entered into eternal rest on Monday, March 5, 2012.
He received his education in the Halifax County School System. He was a successful farmer until he went to work at the Gossit Produce Company in Enfield, NC. He retired from Howell Steel Company in Weldon, NC in 1989.
At a very early age, Harry joined Crowell's Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. McKinley Nicholson. Later he joined Smith Chapel Missionary Baptist Church and attended faithfully until his health declined. Pastor Robert C. Farmer continued to worship with Harry at home and in the hospital.
Harry was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. He loved everyone. His heart and home were opened to so many people. He enjoyed Sundays with his family sitting in the den, eating and singing good gospel music.
Harry's precious memories will forever be treasured by his devoted wife, Mary Coins Demery of the home; his children: Doris Clark (Ronald) of Enfield, NC, Mollie Hill (Charlie Jr.) of Rocky Mount, NC, Ricky Demery (Bernita) of Greenville, NC, Cedric Demery (Cynthia) of Zebulon, NC, Daniel Sanders Jr. (Jeanette) of Raleigh, NC, Dail Faye Pittman (Calvin) of Enfield, NC, Arthur Moody of Chesterfield, VA, Harry Demery Jr. (Vanessa) of Garner, NC and James Demery (Marienne) of Gainsville, FL; sisters: Lucy Tillery Alston of Waynesboro, GA, and Wilhemina Williams of Homestead, Long Island, NY; his grandchildren: Shanda Hill-Suggs (Edwin) of Rocky Mount, NC, Mikell Williams (Keysha) of Enfield, NC, Brandon and Tyrone Demery of Raleigh, NC, Requita Demery of Zebulon, NC, Marydith and Charlieza Hill of Rocky Mount, NC, Bridget Demery of Greenville, NC, Chelsea Demery of Raleigh, NC, Nina Demery of Greensboro, NC, Sierra and Jonathan Sanders of Raleigh; and Ariel Morgan of Rocky Mount, NC; great-grandchildren: Jordan and Jashanna Suggs, Shamiya Williams and Aniyah Lynch; a host of dedicated caretakers and supportive friends.
