The Obituary

It has been said, that the most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen, nor touched, they must be felt with the heart. As God so graciously continues to fill His bouquet, He has added another beautiful flower from His garden, that being Geraldine Babbitt Watson. It was on Sunday, September 12, 2010 that Geraldine entered the realm of eternal life at Halifax Regional Medical Center in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina.

Geraldine entered the world through the conception of her beloved parents, the late Erastus Bobbitt and Minnie Ricks Bobbitt on June 15, 1935 in Nash County, North Carolina. She was one of thirteen children. Nine of her siblings preceded her in death: Erastus, James, Wayvous, Otis, Boyce, Althea, Ellena, Corrine, and Yvonne.

She joined Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Enfield, North Carolina at an early age.

On December 10, 1955, she was united in Holy Matrimony to Rufus Watson, Sr. To this union, five children were born.

Geraldine received her education from Halifax County Public Schools. She migrated from North Carolina to Portsmouth, Virginia and then to Patterson, New Jersey. She worked in the nursing field.

She was a faithful member of Deliverance Holy Tabernacle in Patterson, New Jersey. She served on the Floral and Missionary Ministries. She was an active member of the Order of Eastern Stars while she lived in New Jersey.

After retiring, Geraldine relocated to Enfield, North Carolina. She joined First Baptist Church in Enfield, North Carolina and attended faithfully until her health began to fail.

Geraldine was outspoken, feisty, outgoing, and full of life. Her quick wit brought laughter into any gathering.

Those who are left with precious unforgettable memories of Geraldine are her husband of fifty-five years: Rufus Watson, Sr. of Enfield, NC; her children: Gloria Jackson (John), Torey Watson Powell (Lee), Corliss Watson, Phyllis Watson, and Rufus Watson, Jr., all of New Jersey; seven grandchildren: Rufus Watson, III, Tyrone Watson, Jonathan Jackson, Matthew Jackson, Andrew Gales, Kawanna Gales, and Lisa Monique Powell, all of New Jersey; four great-grandchildren: Tyerra Watson, Jahad Watson, Janayah Watson, and Zion Rives, all of New Jersey; two sisters: Joyce Person (Harold) and Dorothy Bobbitt of Enfield, NC; one brother: Willie Bobbitt (Clyde) of Raleigh, NC; one special cousin: Lillie Belle Sumner of Enfield, NC; one brother-in-law: Edgar Lee Watson of New Jersey; three sisters-in-law: Virginia Bobbitt of Portsmouth, VA, Lizzie Bobbitt, and Addie Draughn of Enfield, NC; two god-daughters: Tabitha Parks and Elaine Davis Hodges; one godson: Dequan Powell; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Her beautiful spirit will always be a treasured memory for those who love her.
