. George Melvin Lawton, Jr. was born on January 16, 1948 in Suffolk, Virginia to Annie Lee Warren Lawton and George Wilson Lawton, Sr.
He attended Florence Bowser Elementary School and East Suffolk High School. George worked at the Planters Peanut Factory for many years as a machine operator in Suffolk, Virginia.
He married Valerie Turner in 1972 and had a daughter, Lanae Lawton. He later divorced and moved to Middletown, Rhode Island in 1976 where he worked as a small machine technician.
In 1979, George moved to Fall River, Massachusetts where he continued working in the same field. There, he met and married his current wife, Sarah Pelote Lawton, on May 28, 1987.
George enjoyed going to church, playing pool, joking with friends and family, and playing bingo. George had many nicknames, including "Booty-Man, Boop-daddy and Bcoo".
Due to his failing health, in January 2009, his brother, Steven Lawton, relocated him from Fall River, Massachusetts to Raleigh, North Carolina. George spent the last months of his life at the Chatham Creek Rest Home where he soon became a favorite of the medical staff. On Monday, August 24, 2009, George went home to be with the Lord, his mother, Annie Warren Lawton and his sister, Betty Lawton.
He will be missed greatly by his family, friends and everyone who knew him.
George is survived by his wife: Sarah Pelote Lawton; his daughter: Lanae Lawton; his stepson: Ray Pelote; his brothers: Steven Lawton, James Lawton, Herbert Lawton, and Robert Lawton; his sisters: Dorothy Clark, Barbara Hike, Evelyn Savage, Brenda Whitfield, Joyce Porter, Sylvia Ashe Charity, and Debra Deloatch; plus numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
