Elbert Gordon Davis, age 80, went home to be with the Lord on April 2, 2009 at his home. He was born on September 21, 1928 to the late Simon and Laura Wilkins Davis.
Gordon attended Halifax County Public Schools. He raised all his children working at ID Wood Cotton Gin in Enfield, North Carolina. He retired from Safelite Glass Company in Halifax County. After his retirement, he worked in his workshop at home.
Gordon gave his life to Christ at an early age at Wayman AME Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother: Jethro Davis; and two sisters: Garteen Thornton, and Bertha Mae Hardy.
Gordon loved and cherished his family. With precious memories, heavy hearts and a deep gratitude to Our Father for having had him in our midst for eighty years, he leaves to mourn, his devoted wife of 57 years: Ella Mae Davis of the home; six children: Gloria (James) Arrington, Elbert (Marie) Davis, Laura (Troy) Arrington, all of Enfield, NC, Gladys (Donald) Silver of the home, Marvin (Hazel) Davis of Fayetteville, NC and Lisa (Ernest) Jones of Enfield, NC; fifteen grandchildren: Kimberley Arrington, Trina (Antwon) Newkirk, Renee Silver, James Arrington, Benita Arrington, Natasha Davis, Tanya Arrington, Michelle (Marcus) Harvey, Travis Arrington, Adrienne Arrington, Tori Arrington, Sharon Arrington, Denzel Davis, and Demarius Davis; five step-grandchildren: Joneka, Tiffany, Cierra, Dominque, and Franchesky; sixteen great-grandchildren; a devoted sister and brother-in-law: Carlean and Emilio Pena of Enfield, NC; brother-in-law: George Whitaker of Maryland; a special friend: Henry Burton of Maryland; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
