DOROTHY ELIZABETH BAILEY HORNE, Was 92 years old, young and her dear loving, caring, kind soul left this earth on Father's day, June 15, 2008. She was a victim of Alzheimer's disease for years. (It was selective!)
Dorothy was born in Enfield, NC to the late Minnie and Henry I Bailey. She was predeceased by her husband of 65 years,1, WESTRY, and her brother HARRISON.
She leaves to mourn and cherish her memory forever, the I unconditional love of her daughters, Jackie Gordon (Frank), and Judith Johnson: Grand-daughter, Dr. Monica J. Johnson: a sister-in-law, Vivian Cleone Bailey: neices; Gwendolyn Fryar and Donna Home; nephews: Jerry Bailey (Sharon), Dennis i Bailey (Delores), Herman Home (Anne), John Gary Home1 (Anita), Lemuel Home (Joan); god-son, Billy Whitehurst; other dear relatives, Gurnei L. Johnson and close friends; and her "precious furs."
Dorothy retired after 25 years from the Woodbridge Public Schools, being the first black teacher in that school system. She taught Special Education and was admired by the staff and her children alike, earning the Teacher of the Year Award during her tenure there. Dorothy also taught Home Economics and! Chemistry in North Carolina. She earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from Bennett College in Greensboro, NC, and a Masters Degree from Kean College, Union, NJ.
Mom, as she was affectionately called, was a devoted wife and mother. Jackie and Judith referred to her as "Precious". She had such a sense of humor and was always smiling. Mom was such a lady, refined, conservative, and if you knew her, you loved her. She was a good and strong woman, the moral fiber of her family.
