Donald Mack Dickens, son of the late Matthew Cherry and Marie Whitaker was born 1957 in Enfield, North Carolina. He went home to rest in the arms of God on August 25, 2006, in Portsmouth, Virginia.

Donald was preceded in death by his biological father, the late Matthew Cherry and step – father, the late Benjamin Whitaker.

Donald was raised by his mom and step- father Benjamin, following the death of his father. He received his education in the Halifax County Schools. He also joined church at an early age.

Donald was joined in holy matrimony to Rita Castro Dickens. From this union, one child was born.

He leaves to cherish his memories: his wife, Rita Castro Dickens, Newport News, VA; his daughter, Dominique Dickens, Newport News, VA; step-son, Shaquan Castro, and step- daughter, Rasheedah Castro; mother, Marie Whitaker, Enfield, NC; sister , Diane Dickens, New Carrollton, MD; a special aunt, Mary Faircloth, Portsmouth, VA; one god-sister Ronique Conyers of Enfield, NC one god- brother Kevin Dickens of Newport News, VA ;four step-sisters of High Point, NC; a mother- in- law, a father- in-law, nine aunts, five uncles, four sisters-in-laws, four brothers- in-law, special cousins as sisters Angela Demery and Danielle Williams; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

The visitation will be Friday, September 1, 2006 at LEA & POPE FUNERAL HOME from 5- 7pm. The funeral services will be Saturday, September 2, 2006 @10 am at Mount Calvary Baptist Church, Enfield NC.
