Obituary

Mrs. Deborah Hughes was born to Delores Parker and Harold Lasley, on March 19, 1952, in Kansas City, MO. She is the oldest of six siblings. Deborah graduated from Paseo High School in 1970. She was a good student and enjoyed things like doing the funky chicken, drinking grape pop, listening to the "Temptations" and roller skating. Her former employers include: ITT Sheraton, Alaska USA Federal Credit Union, Prepaid Legal, Mary Kay, Holiday Inn, Mobil Oil and as an elementary school teachers assistant. She was also owner and operator of "Designs Especially For You." She had a passion for fashion and enjoyed making women feel beautiful. Deborah was very active in her church and community. She volunteered with Interact Rape and Crisis Center, The NC Department of Corrections and was an advocate for battered and abused women. She was a licensed and ordained minister. Deborah loved to teach and preach God's word. She was head of hospitality at Higher Call Christian Church for 10 years and a member of the ministry team. She had a heart for missions and attended a missions trip to Korea in 2006. Deborah enjoyed traveling and even made an appearance on the Price Is Right Show. She married Herbert Hughes Nov. 27, 1987 in Anchorage Alaska. He was her rock and he spoiled her royally everyday. She was preceded in death by her mother Delores Parker and brothers Craig Lasley and Leonard Smith. She leaves those to cherish her memory: a loving husband Herbert Hughes, four daughters, Sanetta Hunter (Michael), Tammy Hubbard (Keith), Kai Hill, Essense Hill. Seven sisters, Carmen Parker, Traci Luster, Margaret Young, Stacey Lasley, Vanvie Thomas, Christy Fielder and Linda Berry. Two brothers Veodist Luster and Harold Lasley, Jr., Seven grandchildren-Michael, Maurice, Josiah, Shekinah, Anthony, Roy and Lauryn. Three Aunts-Ernestine, Catherine and Vivian. And a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.
