Daisy Mae Howard Williams, daughter of the late Ernest and Pollie Bynum Howard, was born on May 9, 1927 in Halifax County, North Carolina. She departed this life on Sunday, February 15, 2009 at 12:00 a.m. She was preceded in death by a daughter: Elaine Williams; a brother: Cornelius Howard, Sr.; and a sister: Coreen Howard Gay.
Daisy graduated from the Halifax County Training School (now Weldon High School) in Weldon, North Carolina in 1945. She received her CNA License from Halifax Community College.
At an early age, she joined the Crowell Missionary Baptist Church. She served as an usher in her earlier years and later became a "Mother" of the church. She attended faithfully until her health declined.
She was married to Walter Williams, Jr. in 1948.
She worked in several capacities during her employment career: Production Worker, Certified Nurse Aide and a Childcare Provider in her home for many years.
Affectionately known as Peggy, Mama Peg and Miss Peg, she embraced the young and old with her warm, gentle spirit and was loved by many. Often, she was found at home sitting in her rocking chair, singing her favorite hymns and sharing her knowledge and wisdom with her grandchildren.
Those left to cherish her memories are four daughters: Yvonne Williams-Kinsey and Helen Williams of the home, Peggy W. Moore (Elmer) of Collierville, TN and Alfreda Williams of Fayetteville, NC; eight grandchildren: Monica, Chastity and Daune, Elana and Mack, Eunetta Lenee, Ashley and Shannon; two great-grandchildren: Morgan and Tamaya; an aunt: Hattie Bynum of Washington, DC; a god-daughter: Barbara Home of Rocky Mount, NC; nieces, nephews, and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
