Charlie McClure Jones, "Bro", son of the late Deacon Charlie Gordon and Willie Johnson Jones, was born on 'September 7, 1927 in Halifax County, North Carolina. He departed this life on February 2, 2009 in Portsmouth, Virginia.
He graduated from Eastman High School in Halifax County, North Carolina and A & T State University in Greensboro, North Carolina. He served his country for three years as a soldier in the United States Army. After returning to the States, he continued his devotion to his country, securing employment as an Administrator for the U. S. Navy Weapon Department at Yorktown, Virginia and upon retirement, taught school in Portsmouth, Virginia.
Charlie, "Bro", as he was affectionately called by family and friends, was raised and nurtured in a Christian home with loving parents and siblings. He was a member at White Oak Missionary Baptist Church and after moving to Portsmouth, Virginia united with the Noble St. Baptist Church where he served faithfully as a Trustee and Usher.
His love for his college alma mater showed through his devotion to the A & T University Alumni. You could always count on him being there when needed.
He is survived by three sisters: Beatrice A. Jones and Viola J. Scott of Enfield, NC, and Willema C. Jones of Portsmouth, VA; one brother: Olusegden (Mickey) of Hollis, NY; four nieces; five nephews; and many other relatives and friends.
