Mrs. C. Erika Alexis, born in Muttenz, Switzerland, on February 25,
1927,
to the late Jakob and Cecile Meyer, passed away on January 31, 2008, at
Heritage Hospital in Tarboro, North Carolina. Her devoted husband
Jacques
and children Bertrand, Edith, and Cecile were at her side. A former
governess, she immigrated to the United States in the 1950s, and
married
and raised her family in New York City until retiring with her husband
to
Halifax, North Carolina, sixteen years ago. Until her illness began to
severely curtail her movements, Mrs. Alexis was an active member of the
Open Minded Seniors at the Tillery Community Center. She took pleasure
in
serving others in the community in any way she could, such as providing
booties, doll clothes, and sweaters, knit by her own hands, to fellow
seniors and their loved ones. In addition to her husband and three
children, Mrs. Alexis is survived by her daughter-in-law Avissa
Alexis-Samari and grandchildren Kimia and Lucas Alexis of France;
brother
Jakob Meyer of Switzerland; and several nieces, nephews, and other
family
and friends in various parts of the United States and Europe.
