Obituary

On Tuesday, July 2nd, 2024, Atlee Holliday Lynch peacefully responded to the call of her Savior and entered eternal life at Nash UNC Health in Rocky Mount, NC. She was born on October 15, 1931, to the late Henderson Holliday, Sr. and the late Nettie Moore Holliday in Enfield, NC. She was the last of the 6 children from this union to transition to her heavenly home.

Atlee received her education from the Halifax County Schools System and is a graduate of Eastman High School.

At an early age, Atlee gave her life to Christ and started her Christian journey at St. Paul Baptist Church in Enfield, NC. She continued her spiritual walk for many years. Continuing with her spiritual growth she became a faithful member of Church of God in Enfield. She was a devoted Missionary and Evangelist at Mount Carmel Church of God in Christ Jesus of Enfield until her health no longer allowed her to attend regularly. She started her journey in ministry on October 14th, 1982, when she was ordained and received her License for the Church of God in Christ Jesus under Chief Apostle Dr. W.H. Amos. As she continued her Christian Walk with the Lord, she became an Evangelist in the Church of God in Christ. You could find her driving through town each Sunday to pick up friends to ride to church. As a faithful member and Evangelist, Atlee would provide testimonies about how good God has been to her. Prior to her message, she began with a song of praise, which one of her favorite songs were "In the Word of God, I've Got a Hiding Place!". Atlee received her piano certificate from Halifax Community College and loved playing and learning new gospel songs.

Atlee was joined in marriage to the late Elijah Lynch in August of 1951. From this union there were two daughters born. She was preceded in death by her parents Henderson Holliday, Sr. and Nettie Holliday; three brothers, Andrew Holliday, Henderson Holliday, Jr., and William Holliday; two sisters, Pearline Powell and Bessie Mitchell; one son-in-law, Leon Arrington; and her best friend of over 50+ years Geraldine Moore.

Atlee was known best during her time working at the New York Bargain Store. You could find her "taking in clothes" on the cleaner's side, providing alterations to clothes, selling shoes or clothes, or simply having a good conversation with people traveling through town. She was a loyal employee to the New York Bargain Store/Cleaners for 50+ years. She also worked part-time at Atlantis Seafood in Rocky Mount and was known for her famous hushpuppies' recipe.

Atlee enjoyed rides to visit her grandchildren, eating good food (especially sweets), a good Western on TV, or reading her Bible and being a caretaker to so many she loved. She truly loved family and checking on her friends throughout the years. Atlee enjoyed the fellowship and activities at the Enfield Senior Center.

Left to cherish her legacy and memories are her children: Carolyn Sanders (Blane) and Retha Arrington of Enfield, NC; one sister-in-law Carrella Holliday; four grandchildren, Rashard (Shantiki) Sanders, Brandon Arrington (Shantia), Rashonda Sanders-Odom, and Chase Arrington; seven great-grandchildren, Ayana, Lauryn, CJ, Alivia, Laila, RB, and Joi; a devoted nephew, MacArthur Mitchell, Sr. and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, dedicated caretakers and supportive, loving family and friends.
