Alice Yvonne Whitaker-Onyancha, daughter of Clementine Whitaker Sledge, Embordian Sledge, and the late Norwood Whitaker, Sr., was born on January 16, 1956 in Halifax County,
North Carolina. She departed this earthly life on September 9, 2010 in Atlanta, Georgia.

Alice received her education through the public schools of Halifax County. She also entered into the Job Corps and furthered her studies at Everest Institute in Decatur, Georgia.

As a child, Alice attended Antioch Baptist Church in Scotland Neck, North Carolina, where the Rev. Frank Davis was Pastor and was baptized at the age of 14.

She was united in Holy Matrimony to Emanuel Onyancha. Together, they both created many wonderful memories.

Alice had a true love for her grandchildren and decorations!

She leaves to cherish her memories, her husband: Emanuel Onyancha; her children: Wilbur Hines and Mark Hines; grandchildren: Mark Hines, Jr., Anthony Hines, Ja'Marcus, Autumn, Deja and Kayshawn; her parents: Clementine Whitaker Sledge and Embordian Sledge; four sisters: Pastor Dorothy Williams (Pastor Samuel Williams) of Warrenton, NC, Debra Pamell of Florence, SC, Patricia Thornton (Stanley) of Enfield, NC, and Karen Harrison (Timothy) of Enfield, NC; one brother: Norwood Whitaker of Baltimore, MD; extended family (Brothers and Sisters): Barbara Yancy (Bobbie), Melanie Newton (Pedro), Deborah Phillips, Embordian Sledge, Jr., Earl Sledge, and Ronald Lewis; mother-in-law: Agnes Moraa Onyancha of Kenya; father-in-law: Henry Onyancha of Kenya; six brothers-in-law: Ben Bingo Onyancha, Kennedy Onyancha, Thomas Onyancha, Charles Onyancha, Nicholas Onyancha, and Ailbert Onyancha; two sisters-in-law: Josephine Maangi and Caltexine Onyancha; aunts: Maude Lee Cobbs of -Richmond, VA and Argiree Fenner of Richmond, VA; uncle: Morris Whitaker of Enfield, NC; devoted friends: Gary Caldwell of Decatur, GA and Lillie Bracy Wade of Scotland Neck, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
